OUR MISSION
Create the leading PAD organisation
There are a few local charities which do great work in training PADs but there is no nationally recognised PAD organisation. We want to create it. We want to tackle obstacles that have caused previous attempts to fail. There needs to be an appropriate level of training and a robust registration system. But we also want to promote the fact that a PAD does not necessarily need to perform specific tasks in order to provide potentially life-saving support.
Rights
We believe that the Equality Act 2010 provides sufficient rights for PAD owners but these rights need to be more widely recognised/enforced.
Companies which only accept ADI accredited Assistance Dogs are discriminating against PAD owners (and other privately trained Assistance Dogs) and these policies need to be publicly recognised as discriminatory.
Awareness
Mental health has been a hot topic in recent years but when help is needed it is still too often not there or difficult to access. A PAD can be a tangible and accessible form of support but the encounters we have had show us how far away we are as a society from properly appreciating the serious role that dogs can play in tackling mental health problems. So we need people to spread the word and speak more openly about this subject.
How to help
To create a nationally recognised organisation we need support from people with experience in a variety of fields (charities, mental health, dog training, communications, law, etc.). We already have some areas covered but we need more support. Contact Us if you think we can work together.
